Your relationship doesn’t have to be a source of stress in your life. You shouldn’t feel like you have to walk on eggshells, waiting for the next thing that will erupt into an argument. Will the dishes be the next argument? Or maybe it will be feeling distant and trying to tell your partner that you want more time with them … which then gets turned into how they actually need more alone time. It’s so difficult to keep the arguments straight! Sometimes it feels like you can hardly talk about anything without it turning into something else. Nothing ever gets resolved and so much goes left unsaid. You want to badly to connect with your partner, for them to hear you, and understand your feelings. Every time you try to talk about it, things get lost in translation. Although you’re in a relationship with someone you love, you can’t help but feel lonely.

Love shouldn’t feel exhausting.

Therapy can help in a number of ways. Having an objective person in the room can help you in identifying ways that your communication patterns are working against you. Therapists are there not only to listen but to teach you different techniques to help you succed in your relationship. Therapy can also help you in getting to the bottom of your patterns. We often call it your “dance”. Why do you feel like you’re walking on eggshells? Where is the connection getting lost? Lastly, therapy helps in rebuilding trust, intimacy, and the connection you once shared. Often times, the connection can be better and deeper after resolving things. Problems aren’t inherintly bad! It’s all in how we view them and choose to handle them. Problems that arise can simply be seen as an opporunity for you and your partner to team up and tackle whatever it is together- deepening that trust and love between you. That’s all we want after all, to feel like someone wholeheartedly has our back no matter what.
